Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord
Ephesians 5:19
Video and Audio of these lessons may be found here: Sermon in Song Series
Singing is a vital part of worship under the New Testament. It allows the saint to express love, gratitude, and praise to the God of Heaven. Furthermore, it is a joyful experience that binds Christians in godly fellowship as we teach and admonish one another (Colossians 3:16).
Like all of New Testament worship, singing is to be offered to God “in spirit and in truth” and “with the understanding” (John 4:24; 1 Corinthians 14:15). Thus, this series of lessons investigates the messages contained in some of the songs that are sung in worship. Occasionally, error is found in a song and must be corrected. Yet the focus is on the edification and encouragement one receives from singing such beautiful songs.
