“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18).
As we begin a new year, we also begin a new yearly study – a series of daily devotionals for the coming year. Previously, we have focused on a Year of Prayer, a Year of Memorization, and a Year of Writing. This year our daily studies will concern growth in the characteristics of a Christian. Thus, we will have a Year of Growth.
This page contains an introduction to and an overview of the theme of our study. It also will be updated each week with the studies for daily devotions. Be sure to check back!
The plan is to focus intently on 13 Christian traits revealed in Scripture. These are listed in the “Christian Graces” of 2 Peter 1:5-8 and the “Fruit of the Spirit” in Galatians 5:22-23. Because of overlap, a couple of other characteristics will also be studied. We intend to explore and grow in Faith, Virtue, Knowledge, Temperance, Patience, Godliness, Brotherly Kindness, Love, Joy, Hope, Meekness, Humility, and Peace.
Each character trait will be studied daily for four weeks. One week will be spent on Explanation – defining the term and noticing passages that describe how this word is used in Scripture. Two weeks will be devoted to Examples – individuals and events in the Old and New Testaments that illustrate these attributes. Of course, the example of Jesus will be emphasized. The fourth week will be focused on Exercise – passages that teach how to develop these attitudes and encourage in so doing.
We look forward to studying and growing together this year!
